Protect the work surface first
Spend enough on a stable desk with usable knee clearance. Decorative features matter less than dimensions and a surface that does not flex during typing.
Reserve money for the missing pieces
A laptop riser normally requires an external keyboard and pointing device. Lighting and cable control are small costs that determine whether the setup remains usable.
Reuse before upgrading
Keep a working display or chair if it fits. Replace the component causing the clearest daily problem instead of forcing an entirely new matching set.
Leave contingency
Hold back roughly ten percent for an adapter, longer cable, or desk-edge problem discovered during installation.
Products described as tested were physically evaluated. Specification-based recommendations are labeled and never presented as hands-on tests.
