Diagnose before shopping
Record a sample in the normal room. If the face is dark, fix light. If speech is distant, fix microphone distance. If the picture is soft despite good light, then consider a webcam.
Audio usually matters most
A wired headset places the microphone predictably and avoids battery problems. A desktop microphone can sound better but also captures keyboard and room reflections.
Move the light off-axis
Soft front-side light is usually more flattering than a bright ring centered directly around the camera.
Check physical conflicts
A webcam and monitor light may compete for the same top edge. Plan both before ordering.
